If you are sourcing Cetaphil wholesale for the UAE, decide how much room each item has for a retail markdown before increasing your stock commitment. A useful markdown floor covers that item’s landed cost, the costs of making the sale and a contribution target chosen by your business. It is not a brand-wide percentage or a guarantee that the product will sell.
For a store in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, the practical question is: “At the price the customer will actually pay, what remains from this specific unit?” Start with the Cetaphil products listed by Lacaco, then calculate from your confirmed quote and your own channel costs. A catalogue listing is not confirmation of current stock, destination eligibility or a discounted offer.

Give the slow item a defined problem
Keep the review at item level. A brand can sell well while one pack accumulates on the shelf. Check the exact product, size, lot, sellable quantity and recent sales period. Separate stock that has had a fair opportunity to sell from stock that has only just arrived.
Before changing the price, rule out a missing photograph, an unavailable online listing, incorrect shelf placement or an unclear selling unit. If the problem is that shoppers cannot find the product, a discount may simply reduce revenue on the few sales already happening. Review product condition and remaining saleable life separately. A lower price cannot make unsuitable stock acceptable for sale.
Do not apply one discount to every Cetaphil item
Lacaco lists Cetaphil Extra Gentle Daily Scrub 6 oz and Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream 1 oz. These are different products and retail units. Their listings show case packs of 12 and 144 respectively. Confirm the offered packing arrangement and purchase terms rather than treating those counts as order minimums.
A fixed picking or packing charge can consume a different share of the selling price on a small unit than on a larger one. Keep each item’s cost and selling record separate. Do not conclude that the smaller cream needs the same markdown as the scrub, or that a lower supplier unit price automatically leaves more room for discounting.
Define the costs once, without double-counting
- Landed unit cost: the confirmed purchase cost plus the inbound costs your business allocates to that sellable unit. Use one consistent allocation basis.
- Fixed variable selling cost per unit: the costs triggered by selling and fulfilling that unit, such as an allocated packing cost or a delivery subsidy.
- Percentage selling fee: the effective rate charged on the selling-price basis used in your calculation.
- Minimum unit contribution: the amount you want left after the above costs, before fixed overhead and any costs excluded from this model.
Use the same currency and tax basis for every input. The example below uses net revenue excluding any tax collected for remittance. It does not provide a UAE tax calculation. If the actual fee is charged on a different base, includes a fixed transaction charge or changes by price tier, model that actual arrangement instead of using a single percentage.
Do not count inbound freight in landed cost and then deduct it again as a selling expense. Do not subtract a delivery cost twice if your marketplace charge already includes it. Conversely, do not omit a cost merely because it is paid after the sale.

Calculate the floor from the final selling price
For a simple channel with one percentage fee, the working calculation is:
Unit contribution = selling price × (1 − fee rate) − landed unit cost − fixed variable selling cost.
Rearranging that calculation gives:
Minimum selling price = (landed unit cost + fixed variable selling cost + target unit contribution) ÷ (1 − fee rate).
This floor is a decision aid, not a full net-profit calculation. Fixed rent, salaries and other overhead are not included unless explicitly allocated. A positive contribution does not establish that the whole business is profitable.
Shopify’s retail markdown guide distinguishes the size of a price cut from its effect on gross profit. Keep that distinction in your review: a modest-looking discount can remove a large part of what was left after product cost. The calculation here goes a step further by making the specified variable selling costs explicit.
A worked example, not a Cetaphil price recommendation
Assume one hypothetical SKU has an original net selling price of AED50, landed unit cost of AED24, fixed variable selling cost of AED3 and a percentage fee of 10%. The owner selects AED3 as the minimum contribution per unit. These are invented planning inputs, not Lacaco prices, actual Cetaphil retail prices, marketplace fee quotes or recommended targets.
| Net selling price | Reduction from AED50 | Fee at 10% | Unit contribution |
|---|---|---|---|
| AED50.00 | 0% | AED5.00 | AED18.00 |
| AED40.00 | 20% | AED4.00 | AED9.00 |
| AED33.34 | 33.32% | AED3.334 | AED3.006 |
| AED30.00 | 40% | AED3.00 | AED0.00 |
The calculated floor is (24 + 3 + 3) ÷ 0.90 = AED33.333… . Rounding the selling price up to AED33.34 keeps the unrounded result just above the chosen AED3 target. The table retains three decimal places on that row to show the arithmetic. Apply your channel’s actual transaction-rounding rules before approving a live price.
At AED40, the product still contributes AED9 under these assumptions. At AED30, it only covers the costs included in the model. “40% off” does not reveal that difference. Test the final price after every relevant voucher, basket discount and delivery subsidy, not just the price printed on the shelf label.
Give each markdown a limit and a review date
Record the items and units included, the approved net price, the channel and the end or review date. Track units sold and realised contribution together. Faster unit sales alone are not enough if each sale contributes much less than expected.
Compare the result with the same item’s recent non-promotional performance, while noting changes in placement, traffic or availability. This comparison is an operating observation, not proof that the discount caused the change. Avoid promising a particular sell-through increase.
If the floor is above the price customers will pay, do not force a standard discount percentage through the calculation. Review the item, channel and costs. An owner may approve a below-cost recovery sale to release cash, but record the expected loss and the reason explicitly. Historical purchase cost and incremental cash recovery answer different questions; recovering some cash does not reverse a loss already incurred.

Use the result before the next wholesale commitment
A discounted clearance should not automatically trigger a replacement order of the same size. Separate normal-price sales from discounted sales when deciding how much stock the next order should support. Review the pack size, channel fit and quantity commitment rather than assuming brand recognition will absorb the surplus.
For UAE retail buyers, a more useful wholesale enquiry identifies the exact Cetaphil item and the retail unit you intend to sell. Send Lacaco your country and city, requested products or identifiers, quantities and proposed sales channel. Ask for the quotation unit, offered case pack, current availability, applicable order minimums, product-date information and shipping terms.
Use the confirmed response to calculate your own landed cost. Do not assume that a retail markdown is funded by Lacaco or that the supplier will accept unsold stock. Contact Lacaco or email sales@lacacorp.com to request a current quote and confirm the terms for your specific order.
Frequently asked questions
Is the markdown floor the same as my break-even price?
Not necessarily. A floor with a positive target contribution is above the zero-contribution price for the costs included. Neither establishes full business break-even unless all relevant costs and their allocation are accounted for.
Can I use the same percentage discount for the whole Cetaphil range?
Only after checking the result for every included item. Different landed costs, selling units and channel charges can leave very different amounts after the same percentage discount.
Does Lacaco pay for my retail markdown or take back slow stock?
Do not assume either. Request confirmation of any promotional funding, return or credit arrangement in writing. Without an agreed arrangement, calculate the markdown using the costs and responsibilities your business actually carries.
